Re: Discussion of School
YEEEEEEAH.
Do they have an intersession that's going somewhere this year? Like last year they had Costa Rica.
BTW, I went to this homeschoolers club meeting, and they had magazines there, and there was an article about HTH. But it's like a top 10 high school anyway. ;D

Re: Discussion of School
We have three traveling intersessions. One is going to China, the other Boston and the last D.C.

I thought doing a show was better.
We're doing the Reduced Shakespeare company as our play.

Re: Discussion of School
I already remember a song thing from the movie. xD
I think it was like, "There once was a brother by the name of Othello
He liked white women and he liked green... jello."

- Spoiler:
- The other day, at the dinner table, my mom said, "I've raised four disgraces."
Guess why.
School. That's it. That's the reason for our failure. That's the reason we're not out in the world doing what we're supposed to. That's the fault for everything.
I knew that immediately. Seriously, why spend twenty years of your entire life wasting it on studies you are not going to use? It's basically wasting time. Really, all you need is 2, maybe 3 or 4, years of education and you can be off doing something for the world. Back then, 20 years would probably be half of your life or more. You'd just be becoming old and barely getting out of school.
Who needs to learn calculus? Theorums? All that stuff? Why learn it? When do you really use it in the real world? Why would you need it when your going to become a dentist, a vet, a singer or actor?
If we didn't have school, then we'd have more time to think about the real world. About what we want to do in life to waste our time on instead of forcefully sitting in a chair and learning about what Deoxyribonucleic acid stands for. We'd have time to think, "What is really harming our world?" We'd have time to observe things we really want to see instead of just staring out of a window and dreaming. We'd have time to do our hobbies. We'd have time to learn what we want to learn. We'd learn how to survive on the streets. We'd have more money for school just takes all of it. We'd have time just to do anything we want.
You know how schools say, "Don't do this! It's bad for you!" That's practically showing us something we didn't know about before and making us think, "Oh sure! I'll do it." Do you know why we think that? Probably because we want to kill ourselves. Get suspended. Expelled. Just anything to be away from school.
You know what's even more stupid? They tell us, "Don't do this!" and then right after they say, "Oh, but if you do, do it this way." What's the logic in that? Why do you tell people to not do drugs and then give them a clean needle to do drugs with? Why show them how to put condoms on bananas when you say that sex can give you disease?
Iris told me that some of the stuff we learn is cool. Like calculus and how it's done. Sure, it's cool, it may be useful, but some may wonder why it's so complicated? Or why does it seem so complicated? Why can't it be simple? Is it because school and all the stress it pushes on you make it seem complicated, or is it simply because I don't want to learn it that it seems so hard? I don't get it, seriously. Why are things hard? Why can't life be simpler?
Iris also told me that homeschooling is awesomesauce. Of course it is! From what I hear, you learn what you want and not what you don't want. But why is homeschooling a privilege? Why can only so few do so? If it's so much better and it teaches you what you want and need, then why can't the world start off homeschooling instead of going someplace unknown for school? I don't get any of this. They let us go to some torture chamber which bores the life out of us and leads lots of teens to suicide.
Linda told me all about her break-ups and crushes at school. She falls in love with boys there, but then gets heartbroken. What's with that? The school doesn't even care. I think a lot of people just go to school because of friends. It's the only place people can meet friends. That's why people come to school everyday.
I don't get why school is hard. If it was just a bit easier, I'd be happier to even go to school. But they torture us and brainwash us. They stress us out. They make us want to kill ourselves. They make us waste our time. They make our parents disappointed, not only in grades but how we're going to lead our lives. They do all this stuff and they don't even care, just as long as you "learn". It doesn't make any sense.

Re: Discussion of School
OMG, I ranted in reply to your rant!
Actually, Calculus is quite interesting. It's school that brainwashes you to make it boring. I learnt a little about it, and it was seriously so cool. And we do use stuff like that in the real world, we do! But school teaches it in such a boring way that we don't know how we're going to use it in the real world.
So for homeschooling, my dad got me these books called "Life of Fred." These books are for people that are good at reading, but at the same time don't really like math. I fit that category perfectly, so he got the books for me. (And the author himself sent the books to us, and autographed it. HE IS AWESOME!) But anyway, those books not only show many ways that these things can be used in the real world, in every job, no matter what you do, but also make math so interesting! I find myself absorbed in the book every time I read it, and read it for my entire homeschool class!
Nice rant, but I rant way longer. If it was longer I would be impressed... but I guess it's long for you anyway. You usually don't have too much bottled up inside of you. You get A+s right?
Also, what you say is exactly what unschooling is based on! Child-driven, interest-based learning! The child does what interests them, and the parent helps! Like the other day, I was curious about something. On my iPhone, there was an app that had a rose that grew at first, 4.00 inches per minute, then after 15 seconds, 3.99 inches per minute, then 3.98 inches per minute, then so on. I wanted to see how long until that rose would reach its peak. So I asked my dad, and he helped me draw out a chart in Microsoft Excel. It was amazing to find out. Things like these are what unschooling is made of. The only problem is that we've been schooled for so long that it's hard to know how to do anything else.
And OMG YOUR MOM HAS NOT RAISED FOUR DISGRACES. HOW ON EARTH HAS SHE? SHE HAS NOT. SHE HAS RAISED FOUR EXTREMELY TALENTED PEOPLE THAT SCHOOL HAS RUINED. :O (You guys should've been unschooled from birth.)

Re: Discussion of School
Hey, hey, lemme finish my rant first and then you can respond. xD
Yeah, I don't have that much bottled up inside me. But I seriously don't get the point of the complicated math stuff. Sure, sometimes it's really cool but really, when do you think you will be needing to know that zoo's gain this much money and how to pronounce "Shoushitsuten" or "Hakuse" in Japanese? (unless your trying to learn the language, otherwise it's completely useless) School teaches you boring stuff. :l

Re: Discussion of School
I know right?
Of course, I'm homeschooled, so all the stuff that I'm learning, it's actually taught in an interesting way. With school, they make you think that that stuff is useless, but it's actually very very very interesting. Calculus, for example, can show you a lot of things..., and stuff like calculus can satisfy a lot of curiosity! It's definitely used in the real world a lot, and so are a lot of other things, at least if you learn them right.
(I had to restrain myself so I wouldn't start ranting agian. ;D)

Re: Discussion of School
So true. But who needs to know how to draw and the lectures of art history? Seriously, some stuff is useless. Hence some.
