Rules of Improvisation
Simple Rules, yes?
(()) or OOC stands for being out of character. That means if you just need to say something that has nothing to do with the Improv, say it in (()) or OOC.
- Everything said is true. This means that if someone says "I found $100 on the floor!", then they really did unless the owner of the character says the character was lying.
- Keep it logical! Despite everything being true, keep it logical. The subject can be totally random, like falling down a waterfall of nuclear waste, but you must keep it logical. If you decide to jump out of the car, then you can't land safely on land because the shore is 7 feet away! So if you jump out of the car, then you'll practically die.
- Develop Character, Scene, and what you're doing first. Self-explanatory.
- Use actions. Actions will describe what your doing, instead of others thinking you're just standing around.
- Interact! It's boring when you're not doing something with somebody else! Be sure to interact with the other player or players.
- Events! Problems! Every Improv needs one! It's not exciting without a conflict or problem of some sort.
- When in doubt, talk about the scene. Need help? Nothing to do? Talk about the scene, and where you are.
