The Golden Compass

In a strange world, a world that's not like the world you and I live in, people's souls reside outside their bodies rather than inside. They take the form of an animal called a daemon. Before a child has come of age, the child's daemon can take any form. However, when the child has come of age, the daemon settles into one shape that matches their personality.

People can access different worlds by using a strange thing called "Dust." This is not regular dust found on the ground. It is a strange thing found in the poles. Through dust, people can get through to different worlds, perhaps even our world. People can get through to these different worlds if the dust flows through the person by means of their daemon. Dust seems attracted by the innocence of children

However, a group called the "Gobblers" is kidnapping these children and performing experiments on them such as removing their daemon. The gobblers are led by the Magisterium, who is the leader of this world.

A long time ago, the people of this world developed something amazing, an Alethiometer, also known as a "Golden Compass." However, as the knowledge faded away, the knowledge of being able to read the compass also disappeared. Only a certain one foretold to be able to read it would be able to.

The heroine of this story is this foretold one. She doesn't know who her parents are. Her caretaker seems intent on exposing the Magisterium's actions, and revealing what Dust can do. He manages to get approval to take a trip to the poles and see the dust. He refuses to let her go with him to see the artic, but gives her a gift, a golden compass, the last one left. She doesn't know that she can read it. She manages to get permission from a mysterious lady, who turns out to be one of the Gobblers. She escapes with help from the Gyptians, a group of people that have had many of their kids kidnapped by the Gobblers, and plan to get revenge, and the Witches, another group of people that don't approve of what the Magisterium is doing. They teach her how to read the compass.

...and.... we make it up from there.
Basically, we start with the story, but after all this happens, we make it up. ;D It's improv after all, right? So

Amy gets kidnapped~
Her daemon will be Cephei and will often be in form of a dragon.

Miku is a witch with a... white tiger, Zabu as her daemon.

Shell is the Magesterium. She's actually a small girl who uses a scientific potion to look like an adult and she's very naive so that's why she runs the Gobblers. And her daemon is Opal, but Opal doesn't approve very well with what Shell's doing but will follow anyway.

Too much about Shell? Should I change it?

BTW, you don't have to have real characters as daemons, since they're a reflection of your characters personality. ;D

I like having real characters as my daemons. It's easier that way to distinguish them.

Iris
"Amy! Crystal! Angelina! Look at this lake! It's filled with fish!" I inspected the lake that was near us. We were in the forest near my house.

Arcadia
"It's amazing! I could just... swim in it!" I entered the little lake and turned into a fish.

Iris
I giggled. "Arcadia, come out of there!"

Arcadia
"Alright, alright!" I came out and turned back into a turtle. "Happy now?"

Iris
"No, because now you'll walk so slowly you won't be able to keep up with me!" I giggled again.

Amy
"I wanna swim in it too! Well, unless they're piranhas." I laughed.

Cephei
I wailed happily and jumped in. I caught a fish in my mouth but let it go, since it deserved to live.

Angelina
"Why would there be piranhas here?"

Crystal
"It's fun!" I said.

Johari
"You guys are lucky you haven't settled yet."

Cephei
"Johari, you can fish!" I smiled as I gracefully swam in long circles.

Johari
"It sounds fun to be a fish though," I said regretfully. "Oh well."

Cephei
"It is!" I said, then turning into a fish and swimming in circles. "But it's also fun swimming as a fox!" I turned into a gray fox and kept paddling in circles. "You should join us!"

I laughed and joined them.
